"Gold becoming bright when refined by fire"

Using fire to refine gold...

"Change means getting rid of the old and not using it."

Restoring the celestial:

"The arbitrary feelings of people are mundane gold,
the true sense in people is celestial gold."

"Using the true fire of the original spirit to burn away the
mundane gold of arbitrary feelings, when arbitrary
feelings are gone true snese appears..."

"gold becoming bright when refined by fire"

Gold on the top there is fire down below...

"A cauldron is that wherein something is refined to obtain
the new."

Mirror images of one another
now there is fire on top
and wood down below...

Perfecting wood in fire
changing its polluted
substance...
returning to reality

"Human temperment is mundane wood,
the true nature of humanity is celestial wood."

"Using the true fire of the original spirit to burn
away the mundane wood of temperment,
when the temperment vanishes, the
true nature appears..."

Wood without smoke or flame
impersonal nature
producing wood in fire

illumination inside or out:

"Change and renewal, the false departing and the new arriving,
is the uniting of nature and sense, returning to the origin and
going back to the fundamental. However, it is necessary first to
change the old, in the sense of refining the self, emptying the
mind and biding the time. After that, the cauldron obtains the
new... so as to form the elixir."

One illumination pervades both striving and nonstriving...

Walking the circle
we are like
the forces of nature
active when it is
appropriate
to be active
Still when it is
approriate
to be still
sincere within
active without
action is not
to be divorced
from stillness
gradually
one advances
to the realm
of profound
attainment
of self-realization
stopping in the realm
of utter goodness
without evil...

not staying in a lowly position

"So in the path of practice of the Tao, it is not a matter of the
level of people's talents or qualities, but of whether or not
they have determination. Without determination, even talented
and intelligent people are incapable of attaining the Tao; with
determination, even ignorant men and women are capable
of attaining it. As it is said, those who realize it immediately
ascend to the rank of sages, while those who miss it sink
in the stream forever."

The Taoist I Ching

Going through the changes....

"When it comes to the great matter of nature and life,
one must know the appropriate moments to advance
and withdraw, to sustain and negate, one must know
the principles of filling and emptying, effacing and
fostering - since even the slightest miss can result
in an enormous loss..."

where there is thunder
over a mountain
the mountain is still
while thunder is in motion
this is action that is
carried forth
by means of stillness

return from confusion to order
from effort to spontaneity
correcting instability
stabilize what is correct
cautious by day
working by night
carefully preserving
sane energy
in the mysterious pass
refining and maturing
the correct standpoint

no external energy
is allowed

"The I Ching, 'Book of Change,' is considered the oldest
of the Chinese classics, and has throughout history
    commanded unsurpassed prestige and popularity.
Containing several layers of text and given numerous
levels of interputation, it has captured continuous
attention for well over two thousand years. It has been
considered a book of fundamental principles by
    philosophers, politicians, mystics, alchemists, yogins,
diviners, sorcerers, and more recently by scientists
    and mathematicians.

"The first part of the present volume is the text of the
I Ching proper - the sixty-four hexagrams plus sayings
on the hexagrams and their lines - with the commentary
composed by Liu I-ming, a Taoist adept, in 1796. The
second part is Liu I-ming's commentary on two sections
added to the I Ching by earlier commentators, believed
to be members of the original Confucian school; these
two sections are known as the Overall Images and the
Mixed Hexagrams. In total, the book illuminates the
Taoist inner teachings as practiced in the School of
    Complete Reality.

'Well versed in Buddhism and Confucianism as well as
Taoism, Liu I-ming intended his work to be read as
guide to comprehensive self-realization while living an
ordinary life in the world. In his attempt to lift the veil of
mystery from the esoteric language of the I Ching, he
employs the terminology of psychology, sociology,
history, myth, and religion. This commentary on the
I Ching stands as a major contribution to the elucidation
    of Chinese spiritual genius."

"Whether activating ot stilling, if one does not
miss the right timing, one can actively
get out of danger and neutralize danger
by stillness; then the celestial energy will
not be damaged by the force of mundanity."

          Determine measures
          not clinging to form
          nor sticking to voidness
          discuss virtuous actions
          the waxing and waning
          of the earthly and
          celestial five elements
          once the four forms
          can be combined
          the five elements
          must be assembled
          know when
          the appropriate time
          exist to be benevolent
          when to be just
          when to be courteous
          and when to be knowing
          or when is the time
          to be truthful
          the five virtues
          are one energy
          without bias or partiality

          Remain still
          when twarted by circumstance
          when yin and yang separate
          discern the way
          to make them join
          in a harmonious
          and gentle manner
          where yang has fallen
          there is opportunity
          of getting through an impasse
          manage troubles correctly
          in a congenial manner
          distinguish where
          the danger is
          inside or out
          the creation of life
          is up to oneself

"Discipline is not according to the mind but according
          to the time."

          like the sections of bamboo
          each having its boundary
          each having its passage
          heaven and earth can
          coerce all that has form
          but not the formless
          can coerce the minding
          but not the unminding
          going along with the time
          not being constrained
          by yin and yang

            Fri, March 28, 2008 - 8:52 AM

Quite some time has passed since this project
first began and with each passing day we draw
closer to the remote by the near at hand...
Who we are through this process of awakening
'none but the wise can say ' - Rise up then, like
the movement of thunder irrepressible from
beneath the earthly to activate the energy of will
with firmness and efficacy to act decisively at
this moment of emergce upon the path of
            harmonious action producing happiness...

"If one can accord with the time, then the promotion of strength
can be correct, and the use of intellibence can be appropriate:
The firing process does not go wrong, the measure of the
elements is regulated, haste and relaxation are in order, advance
            and withdrawal accord with the appropriate time and measure;
reaching effortless by way of effort, there is no problem of losing
            what has been gained."

            I Ching

Now the imprecations are clear those of us who ears to hear
will see the truth of it... "When one acts in accord with the time,
the yang energy is expansive, like thunder going out of the earth
and rising forcefully into the sky, startling an area of a hundred
miles with its rumble, so that all demons flee. The life-giving
potential continues increasing, and the earth is always covered
with yellow sprouts, the world blooms with golden flowers.
Wherever one may walk, everywhere is the Tao. No happiness
is more delightful than this." Unfortunately few are they who
are interested in this truthful practice in spirit.

The I Ching was never intended as a tool for devination but as
a tool for teaching this balance of earthly and celestial harmony.
It is by this firing process that we are givien the means of
            insight into self mastery.

"Innate knowledge is rooted in heaven, and belongs to the order
of life; innate capacity is rooted in earth, and belongs to to nature."

"Upon mixture with temporal conditioning, innate knowledge and
turns into artificial knowledge, innate capacity turns into artifcial
capacity; the earthly and the celestial out of harmony, firmness
and flexibility are out of balance, so nature becomes deranged
and life is destabilized, losing the natural endowment of simplicity
and readiness of heaven and earth, losing the innate goodness of
            knowledge and capacity."

"Modification to simplicity and readiness means that knowledge
and capacity are in their innate condition of innocence."

When this happens there is no question of right and wrong,
before or after, past or future because all is contained within
            the present moment.

Illumination is not some fanciful illusion of someday tomorrow.

"The practice of virtue is the study of body and mind, nature and life.
It is a very refined and subtle science, in which the slightest deviation
can produce an enormous loss. It can be accomplished only by
constancy and consistancy, thoroughly investigationg its principles,
fulfilling nature and arriving at the meaning of life."

"What does light illumine? It simply illumines the inherent quality
            of open awareness without obscurity."

True enlightenment is continuing light that illumines not only
the inward but extends outward to reach the four quaters.
